Ever Bilena, Ateneo gun for WPBL semis slots

Nutri-C-Ateneo and Ever Bilena, top teams in the elims, shoot for semis berths today when they clash against separate rivals in the quarterfinal round of the Women’s Philippine Basketball League at the Far Eastern University gym.

The Lady Eagles, who topped the elims in Group A, collide with Mail and More at 1:45 p.m. while Group B topnotchers Gandang Pinay collide with Sunkist-La Salle in the featured match of a quadruple bill at 5:15 p.m.

In other games, Oracle Residences-Far Eastern University, which finished second behind Nutri-C-backed Ateneo, takes on Muscle Tape-Lyceum at 12 noon while Smart Buddy-University of the Philippines tackles Oracare-College of St, Benilde at 3:30 p.m.

Expected to lead the Lady Eagles are RP team mainstay Cassy Tioseco, Treena Limgenco and Jessamine delos Reyes.

The 6-foot Tioseco is the team’s leading scorer, averaging in double-double with 14 points and 13.5 rebounds a game with Limgenco, the team’s fiery guard, norming 11 points.

Like Nutri-C, Ever Bilena and Oracle Residences are also favored over their rivals.

UAAP MVP Marichu Bacaro of University of Santo Tomas will again spearhead the assault of Gandang Pinay. She’s leading the league in scoring with 20.7 points per contest.

The semis games are scheduled on Sunday at the Lyceum gym.
