The Philippine International Darts Open (PIDO) gets under way today with the country’s top darters clashing for top honors against a slew of foreign rivals in the world-ranking event.

Sen. Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr., chairman of the Darts Council of the Philippines (DCP), will declare the tournament open.

The event, organized by J Events, offers P1 million in cash prizes and trophies with players from Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong seeing action, according to Ray Junia, president of J Events.

Steve Duke, Tony David and Edy Sims head the Australian contingent while Bernie Smith, Perrick Samson, and Wayne Carey banner New Zealand’s bid.

Japan will be led by Atsushi Takeuchi, Taro Yachi and Masaki Kazusa while Tengku Hadzali Shah, Selbarajo Sobramanian and Wan MD Fauzi will spearhead Malaysia’s campaign.
