Cojuangco bats for uniform NSA charters

-

Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. has batted for a uniform constitution and by-laws among the national sports associations to avoid disputes within the Olympic family.

“Our constitution and by-laws should be patterned after the principles of Olympism and of the IOC,” said Cojuangco after getting another fresh mandate in Friday’s POC elections.

“We’ll be following the advice of the IOC. All NSAs should register with the Securities and Exchange Commission,” said Cojuangco, who edged shooting’s Art Macapagal, 21-19, in the polls.

Cojuangco recently called for a moratorium among the warring NSAs and decided to settle the conflicts only after the elections.

But the former Tarlac representative clarified that everything should be taken step by step and that they should follow certain rules.

“I think if we start following certain rules and regulations, we’ll be able to avoid controversies,” Cojuangco said.

Among the NSAs with leadership disputes are archery, wushu, swimming, and bowling.

Archery, for one, has secured a temporary restraining order from the Manila Regional Trial Court restraining Lenora Brawner from casting her vote in the POC elections.

But the TRO wasn’t served, paving the way for the smooth conduct of the elections that proved too close to call.                                                                          – Joey Villar
