Patrimonio girls score easy wins in Phinma netfest

Patrimonio siblings Anna Christine and Anna Clarice scored similar wins Tuesday to reach the second round of the Phinma International Junior Tennis Championships Week 1 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Anna Christine, the eldest daughter of former PBA player Alvin Patrimonio, overwhelmed Briton Jessica Courtnell, 6-1, 6-0, to advance against fourth seed Alisa Ogorodova, who eliminated local wild card Ma. Regina Santiago, 1-6, 6-3, 3-0 (ret.).

Anna Clarice, on the other hand, downed Italian Francesca Mazzali, 6-1, 6-0, to arrange a second-round meeting with the winner between third seed Alexandra Walker of Great Britain and Kriszina Kapitany of Hungary.

Top seed Luksika Kumkhum of Thailand downed Eliesa Ball of Great Britain, 6-2, 6-1, while compatriot Prang Pantusart outplayed Yoko Nagai of Japan, 6-4, 6-2, to also secure second-round berths in the tournament supported by Wilson balls, Viva Mineral Water and Powerade.

Other winners were fifth seed Stephanie Tan of Singapore, No. 8 Kobkanok Upapong of Thailand, qualifier Daria Gomolyako of Russia, Daneika Borthwick of Great Britain, Dionne Sanders of Great Britain and qualifier Dong Xiaorong of China.

In the boys’ division, top seed Francis Casey Alcantara won over local wild card Kim Ivor Saraza, 6-4, 6-0, and wild card Jeson Patrombon rallied past Thailand’s Chanon Varapongsittikul, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, to gain second-round berths. Also advancing were fourth seed Omar Elkheshen of Egypt, Christian Oliver Lee of Malaysia and Na Jung-woong of Korea.
