La Salle-Ateneo golf match play slated

-

Three months after their thrilling showdown for the UAAP cage championship, La Salle and Ateneo go at it again, this time, for golf supremacy when the fifth La Salle-Ateneo Match Play is held Dec. 19-21 at the Tagaytay Midlands.

The Archers have ruled the last three stagings of the annual Ryder Cup-style event, including last year’s masterful 24-18 victory, also at Tagaytay Midlands, in a match they dominated from the start behind the hot-starting crew of its youth brigade.

The Archers are expected to field in practically the same roster with some additions to further boost their already formidable lineup as they gun for a fourth straight championship and a sort of revenge after Ateneo swept La Salle in the UAAP basketball finals last September.

But the Eagles, who won the inaugural staging of the event at Sherwood, have made their own adjustments this year with new additions to their roster and a new skipper. They are out to spring a surprise in their bid to put one over the Archers in the event organized and hosted by Belle Corp. and Tagaytay Highlands in cooperation with the De La Salle Alumni Association Golf Club and the Ateneo Golf Foundation.

The skippers of both squad have actually kept their respective rosters under wraps but based on last year’s lineups, La Salle is tipped to lean on the likes of top scorer Miko Alejandro, Justine Limjap, SEA Games silver medalist, reigning back-to-back national champion Anya Tanpinco and Kim Hong.
