Que fires 67 but still six adrift

Angelo Que sustained his sizzling showing with a three-under-par 67 yesterday, staying on track for a possible top 10 finish in the Hong Kong Open at the Hong Kong Golf Club course in Fanling.

Que, the 2008 RP Open champion, actually went four under with birdies on Nos. 2, 13, 14 and 17 but holed out with a bogey that relegated him to joint 13th with a three-day aggregate of 203 heading to the final round of the $2.5 million event.

Artemio Murakami turned in a 72 for a 209 while Juvic Pagunsan fired a third straight 70 for a 210 in the tourney still paced by Englishman Oliver Wilson with a 65-197.

Wilson opened with a bogey but rattled in six birdies in a 12-hole stretch starting at No. 6 for a one-shot lead over Taiwanese Lin Wen-tang who rallied with a 64 for 198.

Bernhard Langer (63-199) was at third followed by Franceso Molinari, Jeev Mikha Singh, Pablo Larrazabal and Rory McIlroy at joint fourth at 200.

 Aunzo second in Indon Amateurs

Ferdie Aunzo fell short of his comeback bid and settled for second with a closing two-under par 70, losing by three strokes to Indonesian Andik Mauludin in the Indonesian Amateur Open at the Imperial Klub Golf in Indonesia yesterday.

Aunzo, who moved to within one shot halfway through the 72-hole event but fell behind by four at the start of the final round, ran out of holes in his chase to snatch the crown as Mauludin played a steady game to secure the victory with a 71.

The top ICTSI bet wound up with a three-under 285, three shots behind Mauludin’s 282 while the three other RP bets –Anthony Saban (80), Sonny Villaber (74) and World Am veteran Jerson Balasabas (80)– finished in joint 14th with 317s.

Over in China, Chihiro Ikeda carded a 77 and moved into fourth place with a 157, five shots behind Chinese Gu Guo-yan in the second round of the China Women’s Amateur at the challenging Nanhai Peach Garden Golf Club in Foshan City, Guangzhou.

Dumandan trails leaders by two

Thai youngsters Pravee Visalkit and Kwanchai Tannin shared the lead after the third round of the Mercedes-Benz Masters Vietnam yesterday at Van Tri Golf Club in Hanoi.

Pravee, who led at the start of the day, carded a 71 and was joined at the top by Kwanchai, who fired a 67.

They lead by two strokes from compatriot Pavit Tangkamolprasert and Filipino Marvin Dumandan in the penultimate event of the season on the Mercedes-Benz Tour.

Jay Bayron fired a 70 and was solo fourth with 213. One shot farther down were Felix Casas (72), Michael Bibay (72) and Orlan Sumcad (73).

Pravee, 21, recently claimed his first title as a professional when he won on the Thai Tour and his fine form is continuing this week.

“I am sticking to a game plan. It’s been going well although today I started to feel the pressure a bit and it effected my putting,” said Pravee.
