Ayson fires 67, tops Fil-Chi invitational

Lito Ayson scored a stirring 67 to cop the overall title in the 2008 Fil-Chi Friendship Invitational Golf tournament held Nov 13-14 at the West Course of the fabled Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Mandaluyong.

Augusto De Jesus, who had a 68, wound up second (low gross) among 200 golfers who took part in the two-day invitational tournament graced by Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap, Deng Xijun (representing the People’s Republic of China ambassador), John Tan, president of the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Wack Wack president Luis Tan, and Tan Shen Ling, honorary president of the Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation.

Hubert Lim, who has a handicap of 8, came through with a 69 to top class A, with Antonio Chua and Alexander Ong, finishing first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively.

Chua and Ong had identical 69s similar to that of Lim, but the two had higher handicaps.

Class B title went to Jose Lim whose 21 handicap netted him a 70 out of 91 gross, while Ramon Aceo finished second on a 71 (HCP 18), and Henry Ng was third at 71 (HCP 19).

Class C champion was Arvin Ting who had a 72 (HCP 21), with Joel Mahusay settling for second at 72 (HCP 22) and Antonio Legarda third at 72 (HCP 24).

Completing the winners’ bracket in the men’s division was Tony Lim who triumphed in Class D with 74 (HCP 28). Johnny Tan finished second at 76 (HCP 30) and Raul Vivas was third at 76 (HCP 25).

Abby Tayao shone brightest in the distaff side with her 70. She had a handicap of 10. Low gross champion was Felicia Medalla, with a 78.

Other top three finishers were May Hie Kwak, Cecile Tan and Irene Dy in Class A, Evelyn Sy, Annie Que and Jie Cabochan in Class B, and Naty Toribio, Shirley Tiu and Baby Aquino in Class C.
