Roberto Pineda joined Philip Jofer Escueta and Ariel Magnaye in the elite cast of double gold medalists after making waves in the 12-under division in the sixth annual Toby’s-Dunlop Youth Badminton Championships yesterday at the Atrium A of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong.
Pineda, teaming up with Cayel Pajarillo of Allied Aztec/Club 650, first clinched the boy’s 12-under doubles crown after demolishing the pair of Vincent Manuel and Alvin Morada of JLTC/Battledore, 21-15, 21-12, in the finals. Returning to the court, teamed up with Jackie Keyater to annex the mixed doubles crown by trouncing the duo of Joshua Prince Monterubio and Michelle Cruz of JLTC/Battledore, 21-15, 21-12.
“I’m pleased with my performance, despite some resistance from my opponent,” said Pineda.
Carlo Remo and Cassandra Lim of ETC/YPBC/Kason, dominated the boys’ and girls’ 12-under singles.
Remo needed three set to beat stablemate Daniel Guda, 21-17, 18-21, 22-20, while Lim overpowered Amabell Sumabat of WWGBA, 21-18, 21-10.
The girls’ double was dominated by team Cebu spearheaded by Lindsay Solomon and Hannah Tudtud who frustrated Alyssa Ysabel Leonardo and Paola Beatriz Bernardo of MSI JR., 21-16, 21-12.

(boys’ 8-under doubles), Ramon Santos and Quianxi Orillaneda of MSI JR. (mixed doubles), Laarni Moreno of Team Viscaya (girls’ 8-under singles), Gia De Vera and Abby Masongsong of Dunlop/ Whackers (girls’ 8-under doubles), Frell Keegan Gabuelo of WWGBA (boys’ 10-under singles), Christian Bernardo and John Matthew Bernardo of MSI JR.
