Lady Falcons scuttle Pirates
Streaking Adamson leaned on Janet Serafica’s brilliant set plays to down Lyceum, 26-24, 25-16, 25-16, and clinch the second semifinal berth in the Shakey’s V-League second conference at The Arena in San Juan City yesterday.
Serafica kept the Lady Falcons’ offense going with superb set-up plays for the team’s hitters with Rissa Jane Laguilles and guest player Nerissa Bautista responding with 14 attacks apiece to power Adamson to the straight-set, 1:11-hour victory.
It was the San Marcelino-based tossers’ fifth straight win after an opening game loss to Far Eastern U as Adamson joined La Salle (5-1) in the Final Four of the tournament sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza and organized by Sports Vision.
In the other game, University of Santo Tomas waylaid Far Eastern U, 25-13, 25-17, 25-12, to join San Sebastian in third place with 3-1 slates.
The Lady Tams bowed out of contention with the Pirates with 2-4 cards.
Aiza Maizo blasted 16 hits while guest player Mary Jean Balse added 15 points for the Tigresses, who will meet the Lady Stags for the No. 3 semis berth on Friday.
“Janet (Serafica) is the key to all our plays. She distributes the ball well, particularly for our top hitters,” said Adamson coach Dulce Pante.
Bautista and Laguilles wound up with a combined 30-point output while Angela Benting added nine hits and Paulina Soriano tossed six points to underscore Adamson’s balanced scoring.
Serafica, the best setter in the last UAAP season, played true to form and came through with 67 excellent sets against Lyceum.
