CdO hosts last Milo run

The 2008 National Milo Marathon concludes its nationwide elimination series tomorrow in Cagayan de Oro, where over 10,000 runners will be vying for P159,000 in cash prizes in the 3K, 5K, and 21K qualifying run.       

This year’s series held in partnership with Bayview Park Hotel Manila, Adidas, and the Department of Tourism started in Batangas City last Feb. 3 and was followed every Sunday in the cities of Puerto Princesa in Palawan, Angeles City, General Santos, Dumaguete, Bacolod, Iloilo, Roxas, Manila, Tarlac, Cebu, Davao, Legaspi, Naga, San Pablo, Tacloban, Tagbilaran, San Fernando in La Union, Laoag, Santiago in Isabela, Baguio and Butuan.

This year also saw the unprecedented simultaneous staging of elimination runs in Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao and Tarlac in one day attracting 60,000 runners.

All top three finishers in the male and female divisions of the qualifying races earned berths in the Nov. 30 national finals.

Cagayan de Oro leg defending champion Roger Sawin-ay is expected to be back to defend his title while it will be a wide open race in the distaff side as Cecile Topia, last year’s top female finisher has already qualified in Dumaguete City last  June.

Local organizer Meg Llamera has invited Misamis Oriental Gov. Oscar Moreno to fire the starting gun for the 21K, Vice Gov. Norris Babiera to start off the 5K fun run and city councilor Adrian Barba to start the 3K kiddie run.
