Lady Archers target Final 4 vs Tigresses

-

A heavy triple-bill ushers in the third week of the Shakey’s V-League second conference with La Salle staking its unbeaten run against rival University of Santo Tomas and Ateneo hoping to recover lost grounds against a surging Adamson side at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Lady Archers and the Tigresses collide in a duel of three-time winners with the 4 p.m. clash also serving as their first meeting in a year after they skipped the first conference of the league sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.

But with four straight victories in the single round elims, the Taft-based tossers are slightly favored over the Tigresses as they shoot for the first Final Four berth in the tournament organized by Sports Vision.

UST, on the other hand, split its first two matches with the España-based squad coming off a tough four-set loss to Adamson last Sunday.

The Lady Falcons also try to firm up their semis bid as they gun for their third win in four games against a struggling Ateneo side at 2 p.m. The Lady Eagles are languishing in sixth place with a 1-2 slate.

Far Eastern U, enjoying a fine start, hopes to keep Adamson in step as the Lady Tams seek their third win in four games against a winless Lyceum side at 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Ateneo-Adamson game will be telecast on NBN-4 starting at 2 p.m. tomorrow with replays to be shown on both Viva Prime Channel on Destiny Cable and Makisig Channel on Sky Cable. The UST-La Salle duel will be aired on Thursday while the FEU-Lyceum match will be telecast on Friday.

La Salle, with head coach Ramil de Jesus back at the helm, will bank on the league’s leading scorers in Jacqueling Alarca and Stephanie Mercado, along with blocker Celine Hernandez and mainstays Manilla Santos and Michelle Datuin.

The Tigresses will miss the services of starters Vida Gutierrez and Maika Ortiz, who sustained injuries against the Lady Falcons, leaving the scoring cudgels and leadership to guest players Mary Jean Balse and Venus Bernal and Aiza Maizo, Judy Ann Caballejo and setter Denise Tan.
