RP bags bronze in Asian soft tennis

The Philippines trounced China but succumbed to powerhouse Korea in the Final Four to settle for a bronze medal finish in the sixth Asian Soft Tennis Championships at the Mungyeong Municipality claycourts in Mungyeong, Korea yesterday.

Veteran Samuel Noguit teamed up with Gabriel Pajatin, Mikoff Manduriao, Jomar Arcilla and Joseph Arcilla to beat the Chinese, 3-0, to barge into the semifinal round.

Pajatin and Manduriao outclassed Li Xiang and Zhang Ge, 5-3, while Noguit blanked Li Yi-Long, 4-0, as RP took a 2-0 lead.

The Arcilla brothers then walked over Shi Xiao-Lin and Liu Bao-Long, who surrendered the third match, ensuring the bronze for Team RP.
