Ateneo fighters shine in URCC

Mikhail Arce Ignacio of Ateneo stamped his class over De La Salle’s Paolo Gomez in the main event of the 2008 Colt 45 - Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) University Challenge held last month at the A. Venue in Makati City.

Ignacio, a freestyler like his foe, finished the match with a Kimura armlock, at the 2:10 mark of the first round.

He was one of three winning fighters from Ateneo in the third edition of the event backed by Pony, No Fear, Yoshinoya, E-Games and Chris Sports.

The match highlighted the 11-fight card featuring mixed martial arts athletes from different colleges and universities in the country.

In other matches, Jonathan Lacson (Hybrid Yaw Yan) of the University of the Philippines stopped Franz Altarejos (Sari-an) of the Entrepreneur School of Asia; Gilbert Ombao (SPRAWL) of UP-Diliman toppled Angelo Cristi (YawYan Maics Gym) of AMA; Lawrence Chan (Strikes and Submissions) of Emilio Aguinaldo College beat Robin Pajantoy (Hybrid Yaw Yan) of Technical Schools and Development Authority School; and Mike Dula (Elorde Mixed Martial Arts) of San Beda Alabang downed Val Castellano (DLSU Freestyle) of De La Salle University.

JR Amores (Maic’s Gym) of AMA, Carlo Juarez (Hybrid YawYan) of Kalayaan College, Giovanni Valenciano (SB-Streetfighting) and Jeff Dogma (SB Streetfighting) of the University of Perpetual Help and Ronnie Ticao (Hybrid YawYan) and Ryan Philip Marquez (Freestyle) of Ateneo also won their bouts in the tournament supported by Bulls Gloves, Windy, Impact High Performance Whey Protein, Solar Sports and Jack TV.
