Record P20M purse staked in 10-stag derby
The 2008 Bakbakan National 10-stag derby, with a guaranteed record purse of P20 million, got under way recently with the provincial, regional and national 3-stag eliminations and the five-day finals slated Dec. 4 at the Araneta Coliseum.
The organizing National Federation of Gamefowl Breeders said the first of 40 qualifiers started last Oct. 11 in Tagbilaran, Bohol and Cuenca, Batangas with the three-stag semis to fire off in the second week of November culminating in the grand finals at the Big Dome.
Backed by Thunderbird Power Feeds and Thunderbird Linyada, the 10-stag derby hopes to surpass the record-setting 1,463 entries that took part last year with NFGB president Ricoy Palmares confident of drawing around 2,000 participants.
Thunderbird product manager Francis Martinez said this year’s entry fee has been reduced to P11,000 from last year’s P15,000, making it even more attractive to derby aficionados.
