Asistio settles for fourth in HK Am

-

Tonton Asistio closed out with a two-under par 68 to finish fourth in the Hong Kong Open Amateur Golf Championships topped by Australian Matthew McBain in runaway fashion in Fanling, Hong Kong yesterday.

Asistio, who took charge in the first round with a 68 but faltered with 75 and 72 in the next two days, battled back with four birdies against two bogeys at the par-70 HK Golf Club’s New Course to rally from ninth to fourth with a 283 total.

But that was seven shots off the 76 of McBain, who fired a one-under 69 to cap his domination of the four-day championship ruled by ICTSI’s Dante Becierra last year.

McBain, who seized control with a third round score of 64, won by four shots over Taiwanese Yang Fei Hao, who had a 72-280 while Singapore’s Lam Zhi Qun shot a 69 for third at 282.

Anthony Fernando also carded a 68 to grab fifth place with a 284 while Peter Villaber turned in a 71 for 16th at 291. Becierra also made a 71 and wound up tied for 24th with a 295, one stroke behind Tommy Manotoc’s 294 after a 74.

Zanie Boy Gialon and Mark Fernando finished tied for 27th with 296 after a pair of 76.
