La Salle spikers aim for 2nd win vs Lady Stags

-

It will be an early clash of the heavyweights as La Salle and San Sebastian collide today in what is tipped to be a down-to-the-wire contest in the Shakey’s V-League second conference at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Archers, bidding to annex a fourth crown in the league after taking a leave of absence in the first conference, tackle the three-time NCAA champion Lady Stags in the 4 p.m. main game with the former seeking a follow-up to their 3-1 win over the Far Eastern U Tams last Tuesday.

San Sebastian, meanwhile, is making its debut in the league sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza and organized by Sports Vision along with Ateneo and Lyceum, which clash in the 2 p.m. opener.

For updates and results, visit the tournament website at www.v-league.ph. The league is backed by Active White skin whitening products, Mikasa and Accel.

Meanwhile, the Ateneo-Lyceum game will be telecast on NBN-4 starting at 2 p.m. tomorrow with replays to be shown on both Viva Prime Channel on Destiny Cable and Makisig Channel on Sky Cable. The La Salle-SSC duel will be aired on Sunday.

Guest player Suzanne Roces and alumna Jinni Mondejar banner the talent-laden SSC squad that includes Rysabelle Devanadera, Charisse Ancheta and Laurence Ann Latigay while Celine Hernandez, Manilla Santos, Jacqueline Alarca and Stephanie Mercado and guest players Carissa Gotis and Relea Saet are the players to watch on the La Salle side.

The Taft-based squad leaned on its net defense to topple FEU to mark its return to the league on a high note although the Lady Archers are expected to have their hands full against the Lady Stags.

Ateneo, meantime, tries to extend its remarkable campaign from other sports as it opens its drive against Lyceum with guest player and power-hitting Michelle Laborte and the talented Ma. Rosario Soriano spearheading the team.

Also expected to carry the cudgels for the Lady Eagles are Denise Acevedo, Misha Quimpo and Averil Paje while Lyceum is expected to pin its hopes on the likes of Dahlia Cruz, Bernadette Satsatin, Raquel Ancheta, Mary Grace Babalo and Joy Cases.
