Favis hopes to retain old coaching job

- Joey Villar, Nelson Beltran -

Coca-Cola coach-on-leave Binky Favis hopes for the best as he awaits the management’s decision on the status of his position on the team.

“I’m trying to enjoy my leave while waiting for further talks. Whatever happens, I hope for the best,” Favis told The STAR.

Favis, under contract to coach the Tigers until the end of the 2009-2010 season, is on leave until the coach-players issue in the team is settled. Calling the shots for the Tigers on interim capacity is veteran player Kenneth Duremdes.

Favis has missed one game but remained hopeful of a comeback.

“I’m sure Mr. JB Baylon would be able to weigh things. What has happened is channeled towards that,” said Favis, hinting the decision is now solely in the hands of the Coca-Cola governor and team manager.

The Coca-Cola top official said he has yet to make a decision, confident Favis and the players could resolve their differences.

“I don’t see the need to rush the decision. I want to make sure we’re all on the same page before making any move. This is just about differences of opinion. I don’t see any reason why this can’t be resolved,” he said.

A number of personalities had applied for the job since the controversy went public.

“Binky is not fired. But there are those who are inquiring for the position. I’m telling them ‘you can give your resume,’” said Baylon.

In their first game minus Favis, the Tigers went all out but fell short in their bid against the Sta. Lucia Realtors, 82-83, Wednesday.

Compounding their woes was Asi Taulava limping out of the game with a suspected calf muscle tear.
