Validation of POC voters, candidates not our job - Chavez
As far as the group tasked to oversee the coming Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) election is concerned, it’s not their job to determine who can run or vote on Nov. 28.
”We already discussed and drafted the rules for the POC elections. We’re here just to organize and supervise the election,” said election committee chairman and former congressman Victorico Chavez in yesterday’s Scoop sa Kamayan forum.
“Now we don’t care who should vote or not. The POC must do it itself,” added Chavez, who was tapped for the job by International Olympic Committee (IOC) representative to the Philippine Frank Elizalde.
Chavez has former Ateneo varsity star Ricky Palou and Bro. Bernie Oca of La Salle as members.
The POC secretary general (in this case Steve Hontiveros), according to the former Misamis Oriental congressman, is in charge of providing the election committee the entire list of POC voters.
“We’ve already asked them (POC) who are the voters,” Chavez added.
The POC will also have to decide the rightful representative of each of the 40 National Sports Associations (NSAs) that will cast their votes. -Abac Cordero
