Gaddi closes in on 3 major karting titles

Jet Racing’s young recruit Christian Gaddi showed his credentials as champion of the future as he moved closer to a rare double championship in the penultimate leg of the 2008 Shell Helix Karting Super Series at the Carmona Circuit Philippines.

Gaddi, 9, backed up by Bingo Bonanza, Mega Exchange and Industria, finished second in the Cadet 60 class to virtually win a back-to-back Cadet Karter of the Year plum.

With that in the bag, Gaddi focused his attention on the Mini-ROK division where he scored a big sweep of all three races against his Cebuano rivals.

The victory now put him just 16 points behind the points leader with 438 points.

”I couldn’t have gotten this far without the huge support of my parents, my school Claret-Quezon City and my teacher-adviser, my mechanic Omel and the whole Jet Racing Team for providing me endless inspiration to give my best in every race,” said Gaddi.

”It would be a rare feat to capture two titles in a single season, especially for a young kid like me. And I will double my efforts to also win the Mini-ROK crown in the championship round next month,” he added.

He was just 0.028 of a second shy of winning the Cadet 60 final race. But he vented his ire in the Mini-ROK class where he wrested the lead for good in the last two laps for the big win.

Aside from his campaign in the local series, Gaddi is also expected to clinch the overall Asian Cadet plum of the 2008 Asian Karting Open Championship.

He has won all the past three legs in Macau, Philippines and Indonesia for a perfect 120 points. Gaddi is setting his sights on another sweep in Thailand Nov. 1-2 before the series winds up in Macau Nov. 29-30.

 “The quest for the Asian crown is far from over with two more legs to go but with my loving mother Tina and teammates Javi Benitez, Renz Pazcoguin, Franco Reyes, Milo Rivera and RG Romero behind me, I believe I have great chances of achieving all three titles this season,” Gaddi further added.
