MJC, PEZA sign eco-tourism agreement

-

Manila Jockey Club and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority formally signed a certificate of registration last week designating MJC as the developer and operator of the San Lazaro Leisure and Business Park, the country’s newest tourism economic zone, in Carmona, Cavite.

The registration follows Presidential Proclamation 1517, earlier signed by President Arroyo authorizing MJC to join the ranks of other economic zones in attracting new investments and businesses.

San Lazaro Leisure and Business Park uniquely combines both business and tourism. It is also poised to attract both local and foreign arrivals to avail of the infrastructure, facilities and amenities of this world-class zone, which already includes a thoroughbred horseracing complex and multi-level Turf Club.

Alfonso Reyno Jr., MJC president and CEO, assured PEZA director-general Lilia de Lima that the new zone would be a success as a mega-leisure and business hub.

De Lima said PEZA would assist, through its open-arms policy, the club’s efforts in attracting locators that would boost tourism, including lifestyle and leisure, retirement havens and medical facilities.

MJC and PEZA are optimistic that growth in investments especially in business process outsourcing outside Metro Manila will be among the major projects at San Lazaro.

Present during ceremonies were MJC vice-chairman Marisa Tan, MJC directors John Espiritu, Jun Moran, Christopher Reyno, Reyno and Ferdinand Domingo, together with Elba Cruz.
