Pacman pores over Diaz fighting style
Manny Pacquiao thinks he has covered enough bases preparing for David Diaz, more than three weeks left before they dispute the WBC lightweight crown on June 28 at
“We have carefully studied his fighting style,” Pacquiao said yesterday from
“We have seen on film how he attacks as well as how he defends,” added Pacquiao who’s had the chance of viewing tapes of the most recent fights of the reigning champion.
Trainer Freddie Roach does his viewing separately.
“We are trying to plan and create counter-attacks as well as combinations in order for us to break down his defense,” added Pacquiao after one month of training in LA.
He thinks he already knows Diaz too well.
“We are quite sure we have covered and dissected his fighting style. Hopefully, my team could finish their assignments so that we will all emerge victorious on June 28,” added Pacquiao.
Diaz and Pacquiao have never fought, and the only times they’ve been under one roof were when they fought separate opponents last March at Mandalay and a number of public appearances.
Pacquiao said training is in high gear now, and starting next week he’d be sparring 12 rounds on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays against a line of fighters that have been tapped by Roach.
“The most difficult part of training will start in a week. Sparring sessions will consist of 12 rounds. We will also increase the rounds on the mitts,” added Pacquiao.
Diaz has been a step ahead of Pacquiao as far as training is concerned. He opened camp last April 19, spending more time loosening up heading toward the tough grind.
