Taguig hurlers silence Batangas

Resurgent Forward Taguig leaned on superb pitching as it walloped Batangas, 12-2, yesterday to keep its post at third place in Baseball Philippines’ Series 3 at the Rizal Baseball Stadium.

Ernesto Binarao and Ronaldo delos Reyes yielded just three hits in powering the Patriots to their fourth win in a row  and fifth overall in eight outings.

“That’s one of our strength – pitching,” said team manager Dennis Daep.

Taguig plastered Batangas with 12 hits including, three by centerfielder Andy Velasquez to score four runs to help seal the win.

The Bulls fell to their fourth setback in seven matches that spoiled their bid to seize No. 3. The win was a repeat of the Bulls’ closely fought 8-7 win last May 11 when Ricardo Jimenez  blasted three hits that translated to two runs in the late innings.

The Patriots seek to sustain their amazing run when they take on the Makati Mariners, the pilot series champions who remained winless in their first seven starts in this event organized by Community Sports.

Harbour Centre, Mizuno, IEI, PTC, Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdog, San Mig Coffee, The Heritage Park and Welcoat Paints are backing this tournament,  now on its second year.

Earlier, Dumaguete won via default over expansion team Antipolo after the latter came into the game without the minimum number of  players.

It was the third victory for the Unibikers in seven outings to improve to fifth spot while the Pilgrims absorbed a fifth setback against three triumphs to skid to No. 6.
