Batang Pier come to life, even series
TRECE MARTIRES, Cavite — Harbour Centre played with the poise and character it lacked the last time out as it got even with Hapee Toothpaste, 93-81, in Game 2 of the PBL Lipovitan Amino Sports Cup best-of-five finals showdown at the Gov. Ayong Maliksi Gym here yesterday.
“We stayed focused and showed aggressiveness in defense in the fourth quarter,” said Harbour Centre coach Jorge Gallent after his troops avenged their 73-74 loss in Game One in
Game 3 is set in Tanauan, Batangas tomorrow and Game 4 back in
Jeff Chan came out of his shell as he fired a game-high 18 points with former two-time MVP winner Jason Castro adding 16, all coming in the final half.
Castro, who is set to suit up with the Singapore Slingers in the Australia-based National Basketball League in August, struggled in the first half but found his rhythm in the second, fuelling the Batang Pier breakaway from a nip-and-tuck contest.
“Jason just showed once again his great all-around game,” said Gallent of his flashy, lightning-quick guard who could become the league’s next three-time MVP winner. Castro and Hapee’s Gabe Norwood are slugging it out for the coveted individual award.
Boyet Bautista, Edwin Asoro and Jerwin Gaco had their significant contributions, helping Harbour Centre reduce the series to a best-of-three affair.
