Defending champion Carlos Anton and his Mark Young-Yokohama prepared CRX proved its supremacy after capturing his fourth straight victory in a record-breaking fashion recently in the 2008 Hill Climb Series at the Hills of Mount Samat.
Anton, a multi-title race driver, posted the best time of the day at 2:40.39, the new record time at the 4.2 km. Mt. Samat course where he turned back Carlo Garcia, Alvin Santos and 37 other racers.
Garcia was two seconds behind with 2:42.99 while Mark Young teammate Alvin Santos was third (2:43.48).
“Carlos drove a fantastic race and set a new course record for Mt. Samat using our new 4.7 gearbox,” said team owner Mark Young after Anton inched closer to what Young hopes will be a second title in as many years.
Anton also led a strong Petron BGH-Harrison Baguio team led by Dennis Aoyong and David Roxas who finished second and third, respectively, in Group 3, Imay Datu who ended third in Group 2 and Frankie Domingo who was runner-up in Group 1.
“The Yokohama A-048’s have been a great help in my four victories this season and I hope we can continue to place well in the final two rounds to clinch the title like last year.” Anton said of his strong partnership with Yokohama that helped him win the championship last year.
Before the final two rounds of the Hillclimb set May 24 and 25 in Batangas, Anton hopes to wrap up the RP14 Class championship in the Rallysprint Series come May 17. He has also won all four RP14 rally’s this season with Mark Young Racing.
