The BAP-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas nominations and elections committee, chaired by Ely Capacio, meets tomorrow to sort out the final list of members which will be given the voting rights in the national cage body’s first national congress and elections on May 31.
National Basketball Conference, Philippine Collegiate Champions League, Iloilo Basketball League, Laoag Inter-Club Basketball Association, Zamboanga City Sports and Arts Association, and KABAKA were among members which beat the deadline yesterday to submit credentials and application for active membership status for the coming elections.
Earlier granted the same status were the UAAP, NCAA, NCAA-South, PBA, PBL, CESAFI, NAASCU, SBPI, NCRAA, WNCAA, COSAA, El Federacion Basketbolista de Zamboanga, Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League (BBEAL), Pinoy Basketball, Inc. and Cagayan De Oro Basketball Federation.
“We’re not delisting anybody. We’re just sorting out the membership for the coming general assembly. An associate member will be granted active membership status once it complies with the process and the requirements,” said Capacio.
The organizations not granted active membership status during the board meeting last April 4 were given up to yesterday to submit credentials that would make them eligible to vote on May 31.
“Everyone was given the window of opportunity. Those who didn’t comply may still do so. From an associate, one can become an active member once it satisfies the requirements,” said Capacio.
Atty. Boni Alentajan, Noli Eala, Nic Jorge and Bernie Atienza are among the members of the nominations and elections committee screening and validating the SBP general membership.
