Hot Lady Falcons, Tams turn back foes

-

Adamson held its punches in one stretch but scored a knockout just the same as it swept Lyceum in straight sets, 25-17, 25-23, 25-18, yesterday to highlight its debut in the Shakey’s V-League Season 5 at The Arena in San Juan City.

Guest player Neriza Bautista played true to her potential and came away with 14 points, including 12 kills, while Rissa Jane Laguilles backed her up with 10 attacks for a 13-point performance to key the Lady Falcons’ romp.

They were actually outscored by the Lyceum tandem of Beverly Boto and Dahlia Cruz, who combined for 29 points, but the Adamson duo drew enough support from Michelle Segodine and Angela Benting, who each had nine points, and Jacqueline So and Janet Serafica, who chipped in seven points between themselves.

“They somewhat relaxed in the second set but gave their best in the third where they showed their true form,” said Adamson coach Dulce Pante in Filipino.

Far Eastern U flirted with disaster but recovered in time to escape with a scary 25-17, 24-26, 21-25, 25-18, 15-9 victory over a stubborn St. Benilde side in the second game.

Sorely missing the services of its three former stalwarts, the Lady Tams had to lean on Irish Morada, Mary Rose Cabanag and Cherry Vivas to avert what could’ve been a humiliating setback to a new team in the league. The troika put in a combined output of 53 points.

“We’re still adjusting following the loss of Rachel Daquis, Wendy Semana and Josephine Cafranca, who helped power the team to the UAAP title win last month,” said FEU coach Nes Pamilar in Filipino.
