RP shooting gets big shot in the arm
Philippine shooting has received a big boost from a generous sports patron – Mayor Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino of Tagaytay City.
Tolentino, who regularly hosts tournaments in basketball and chess, met recently with reigning national pistol champion Nathaniel “Tac” Padilla, and agreed to build an international standard shooting range capable of hosting international competitions in Tagaytay.
“Tac (Padilla) has sounded an appeal for LGUs (local government units) to support his youth development program, so I decided to come forward and give my one hundred percent backing by agreeing to put up a modern range,” said Tolentino after signing a memorandum of agreement with Padilla.
Padilla, who was named chairman of the national youth development program by PNSA (Philippine National Shooting Association) president Art Macapagal only two weeks ago, praised the youthful mayor for his positive response.
“Mayor Tolentino’s decision is very laudable. The range he’s going to build will greatly benefit current and future shooters, especially the 12-17-year-old aspirants who have signed up to join the regular training and monthly clinics my group will be holding,” said Padilla.
