Clark run to draw record crowd Jan 13

CLARK FREEPORT – Some 5,000 spectators are expected to watch the first International Clark Marathon slated Jan. 13 at the Clark parade grounds.

This was announced Friday by Eric Pinpin of the CDC tourism and promotions office, (TPO) saying that 2,000 local and foreign athletes from Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, Thailand, and the Philippines are compete in Clark’s first ever international marathon.

At least P1.8 million in cash prizes is at stake in the event where competition will be in four categories  – 42K 10k, and 5k.

Registration fees for the categories are  P500 for the 42k and P250 for  the 10k and 5k.

The event is held in cooperation with CDC and Active Asia and will be supervised by  race director Rudy Biscocho.

Pinpin said the marathon is part of aa series of activities lined up by CDC in the new year.  CDC is now preparing for the upcoming “Clarksiyahan” – a “packet of activities” to be held from Feb. 8-10  at the CDC parade grounds.

Clarksiyahan features a drag race, quiz bee, inter-school street dancing, PEP squad competition, locators’ product selling, bikini open, and the Johnny Walker rave party and fashion show.

According to Pinpin also in store for the coming New Year, are the 12th International Hot Air Balloon Festival and the final round of the CDC President’s Cup Circuit Race. – Ric Sapnu
