RP divers concede gold to Malaysians
NAKHON RATCHASIMA – The crack China-trained Malaysian divers claimed three more gold medals, relegating the Filipino bets to the silver on the second day of the 24th Southeast Asian Games diving competitions at the Main Stadium Aquatics Center yesterday.
Zardo Domenios and Niño Carog failed in their title retention bid in the synchronized 3-meter springboard diving, ceding the gold to Doha Asian Games bronze medalists Neo Yeo, Kee Nee and Roslan Rosharisham of
Rexel Fabriga also settled for the silver in the 10m platform diving won by Malaysian Bryan Lomas, who qualified for the Beijing Olympics by making the cut in the World Cup in
Lomas took the gold with 429.70 points while Fabriga was second with 419.90.
Kee made a double after winning the 3m springboard with 444.5 points over Rosharisham (435.65) and Domenios (407.50).
Another Malaysian, Leong Mun Yee earlier claimed the women’s 1m springboard diving gold with 278.30 over defending champion Sheila Mae Perez (265.80) and fellow Malaysian Elizabeth Jimmie (263.10).

The Filipinos had 366.42 and the young Vietnamese pair 324.93.
The Malaysians made an outstanding combination of execution and synchronization in the reverse two-and-a-half somersault, one-and-one-half twists for a high 85.05 points on their fifth dive.
The Filipinos did the reverse two-and-one-half somersault with a 3.0 degree of difficulty but managed only 67.50 and all but conceded the gold medal to the Malaysians going into the sixth and final dive.

Fabriga scored a high 83.30 in the sixth and last round in the 10m platform diving with his back two-and-a-half sommersault with one-and-one half twist but it was not enough to overhaul the lead of the Malaysian.
