Rain of treys powers Bulls past Magnolia

-

Red Bull fought back from 15 points down in the third quarter then came through with key triples down the stretch to complete a stirring come-from-behind 94-88 win over Magnolia last night in the Smart-PBA Philippine Cup at the San Sebastian Gym in Cavite.

Mick Pennisi rifled in two of his nine triples in the fourth quarter, including one that shattered an 84-all tie, while Celino Cruz knocked in a trey of his own seconds later to help power the Bulls to their eighth win in 12 games.

Pennisi finished with 16 points and drew solid support from Junthy Valenzuela, who drained 10 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter.

The win thus put Red Bull closer to a skidding Purefoods, reeling from two straight setbacks for a 9-3 (win-loss) record.

Meanwhile, the Giants try to rebound from those twin losses as they take on an undermanned Welcoat side at 7:20 p.m. at resumption of action at the Araneta Coliseum today. – Joey Villar
