Django, Bata face Chinese in quarters

Filipino cue masters Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco “Django” Bustamante will have the Chinese pair of Li He-wen and Fu Jian Bo as quarterfinal round assignments in the World Cup of Pool Saturday evening in Rotterdam, Holland.

China won a thrilling match over France to set up a quarterfinals showdown with the Philippines but  unseeded Belgium made the biggest news in the Round of 16 with an 8-6 shocker of third seed Taiwan.

Li He-wen and Fu Jian Bo outlasted Vincent Facquet and Stephan Cohen, 8-6, to advance to the Final Eight against Reyes and Bustamante who whitewashed their Croatian rivals, 8-0, Friday.

Belgium stole the thunder when Noel Bruynooghe and Serge Das, ranked 46th and 60th in Europe, respectively, defeated the Taiwanese side of 2005 World Champion Wu Chia-ching and Yang Ching-shun.
