UAAP denies Ilad appeal, bans Ateneo fan

-

The UAAP yesterday denied La Salle forward Brian Ilad’s appeal to reduce the six-game suspension slapped on him for punching UE center Mark Fampulme.

“In accordance with the league’s rules, the UAAP board unanimously voted to deny the appeal of Brian Ilad seeking to shorten the six-game suspension slapped on him to three for lack of merit,” said league president Fr. Ermito de Sagon, OP, of Santo Tomas in a statement.

The decision, relayed by technical committee chair Kiko Diaz of State U, came after an emergency meeting before the Ateneo-La Salle showdown at the Big Dome.

The decision thus ended Ilad’s UAAP career where he averaged 4.2 points and 4.6 rebounds in 13 games.

Ilad was suspended for punching Fampulme on the nape during the first quarter of their Sept. 13 match, which the Warriors won, 92-84, in overtime.

The league also banned Ateneo fan Raffy Dayrit from attending any UAAP-sanctioned basketball game for physically and verbally abusing commissioner Ed Cordero in the Eagles’ Final Four win over the dethroned University of Santo Tomas Tigers Sunday.

“The UAAP also unanimously voted to ban Raffy Dayrit of Ateneo for his grossly abusive conduct and behavior against commissioner Ed Cordero,” said de Sagon also in a statement. – Joey Villar
