Squires deal two aces for 5th win
Kevin Alas fired 30 points as Letran ripped Perpetual Help, 98-80, yesterday to stay at helm in the juniors division of the 83rd NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in
Alas, one of the sons of Knights coach Louie Alas playing in the team, scattered 19 points in the third quarter as the Squires broke away from a tight game en route to a runaway victory, their fifth against a lone setback.
Kristoffer Alas backed his younger brother with 18 points while lording it over the boards with 11 rebounds.
San Beda, meanwhile, stayed within striking distance of the solo leader at 4-2 as it plastered St. Benilde, 91-73, in the other game.
Thomas Babilonia, the son of the late former PBA player Gido Babilonia, came through with a double-double performance of 16 points and 11 rebounds to power the Red Cubs to the victory.
“I’m happy Kevin made things happen for us especially in the third quarter,” said Letran coach Elmer Latonio of Alas, who scored 40 points in the first round of eliminations.
The Altalettes fell to their fifth setback against a win while the Greenies reeled to their fourth defeat in six outings.
