SSC lady spikers, juniors show way

Defending women’s and juniors champion San Sebastian grabbed the early lead in the NCAA volleyball tournament last weekend at the SSC-R Gym in Recto, Manila.

 Bucking the loss of injured hitter Joy Benito, two-time Shakey’s V-League runner-up Lady Stags repulsed 2005 champion Lady Blazers, 25-18, 25-22, 25-15, while the Recto-based juniors squad defeated their Greenhills counterparts, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21, 27-25.

  CSB averted a ‘sweep’ by San Sebastian after its men’s team won, 27-25, 25-15, 25-19, for a 2-0 record.

The Lady Stags, who relied on old reliables Sasa Devanadera and Joy Polido, remained unscathed after two outings.

 Action resumes today at the Recto venue when San Beda meets University of Perpetual Help Dalta in the juniors, women’s and men’s division games starting at 8 a.m.
