Payo new UAAP press corps head

The UAAP Press Corps recently elected Jasmine Payo of the Philippine Daily Inquirer as its president for Season 70.

Joel Orellana of Manila Times will serve as vice president, Theodore Jurado of the Journal Group as secretary-general, Mike Lee of Bandera as treasurer, Arman Carandang of Tribune as auditor, Ian Brion of Business Mirror as PRO, and Mae Balbuena of Pilipino Star Ngayon as chair.

Nick Giongco of Manila Bulletin and Abac Cordero of Philippine Star will act as senior advisers.

Board members include Malaya’s Christine Moncada, Bulgar’s Marivic Awitan, Manila Standard’s Peter Atencio, Abante’s Ace Pasco, and Balita’s Lito Oredo.

The group has been handing out the UAAP Press Corps Anta Player of the Week citation to varsity players who displayed outstanding skills and leadership. A post-season award ceremony will be held in October.

Last year, the press body feted the best of the UAAP including coach Pido Jarencio, Jojo Duncil, Jervy Cruz and Dylan Ababou of 2006 champion University of Santo Tomas, Adamson‚ Ken Bono and Ateneo de Manila’s JC Intal.
