Blue Eaglets force 4-way  tie at helm

-

Four teams, including defending champion Ateneo, were left unscathed after two playdates of the UAAP juniors basketball tournament over the weekend at the Far Eastern gym.

Juami Tiongson scored 21 points and Ael Banal chipped in with 12 in leading the Blue Eaglets to their second straight win, a 79-64 demolition job of the Santo Tomas Cubs.

The Baby Tamaraws, the runners-up last year, La Salle-Zobel and the surprising National Bullpups are also at 2-0 after posting similar convincing victories.

Mashi Okubo and Bryan Manguera combined for 35 points in leading La Salle to a 93-52 victory over UP-IS, while Anthony Paulino had 14 points and 11 rebounds in pacing the Baby Tamaraws to a 75-64 decision of the University of the East.

Kevin Batac, meanwhile, was a one-man wrecking crew for National, leading the Bullpups with 30 points in a 79-69 nipping of Adamson.

In women’s play, Ateneo and University of the Philippines also improved to 2-0 after a 54-30 and a 46-36 win over National and La Salle, respectively, over at the Blue Eagle gym in Quezon City.

Rem Buenacosa had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Marichu Bcaro was brilliant with 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists in leading the defending champion Santo Tomas Tigresses to their first win in two games, a 69-56 edging of Adamson.
