Ateneo, La Salle duel in Shakey’s V-League today

Ateneo and La Salle clash today in a duel of two of the league’s fancied teams in the Shakey’s V-League with the Lady Eagles eyeing a third straight victory and a share of second place with idle San Sebastian at The Arena in San Juan.

The Katipunan-based tossers nipped Univ. of Santo Tomas in a thrilling five-setter last May 24 then held off Letran in four to bounce back from an opening day game setback to streaking Lyceum.

La Salle, on the other hand, has gone win-loss-win-loss in its first four games with the four-peat seeking squad raring to get back on the winning track again in the tournament sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza and Sports Vision.

That makes the 5 p.m. encounter doubly interesting as Ateneo is likewise out to firm up its bid to join early semifinalist Lyceum in the next round.

The Lady Pirates clipped the Adamson spikers in four sets last Thursday to stretch their win run to five to claim the first semis slot. They will take a well-deserved week-long break and will resume their drive against UST on Thursday.

The Tigresses, meanwhile, shoot for their second win in three starts against the winless Lady Falcons in the 1 p.m. opener while Far Eastern U collides with Letran in the 3 p.m. encounter.
