Lyceum shoots for fourth win in Shakey’s V-League

-

Streaking Lyceum hopes to keep the momentum of its impressive three-win romp as it battles Far Eastern U today even as La Salle and San Sebastian clash in a duel of top collegiate teams in the Shakey’s V-League at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lyceum spikers toppled the two-time NCAA champion SSC squad in straight sets last Thursday to stretch their win run to three and remain the only unbeaten team in the event sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.

“It feels great (to win three straight games),” said Lyceum mentor Emil Lontoc. “Looking at the other teams, I think we have a chance at defeating them, but it still depends on how consistently the players do.”

Sherrilyn Carrillo, Josielyn Degorostiza and Beverly Boto have been dishing out great games for Lyceum, starring in the team’s romp over Letran, Ateneo and fancied SSC for the early lead in the tournament organized by Sports Vision and backed by Mikasa, Accel and Jaemark’s Restaurant and aired over NBN-4 across the week.

The troika, along with Cristina Salak, are again tipped to lead Lyceum in their 1 p.m. encounter with FEU, which bounced back from a straight-set setback to La Salle with a tough five-set win over Adamson.

Focus will also be on the 5 p.m. encounter between La Salle and SSC, the top teams in the UAAP and NCAA, respectively, but which both had shaky starts in the tournament. Although the Lady Archers are in second with a 2-1 card, the three-time Shakey’s V-League champions are coming off a hard-earned five-set win over Adamson last week.

San Sebastian, on the other hand, is tied with UST, FEU and Ateneo at 1-1, bowing to Lyceum after posting an impressive victory over Letran.

The Lady Eagles, meanwhile, take on the winless Adamson side at 3 p.m., looking for a followup to its stunning five-set win over former champion UST.
