La Salle collides with Univ. of Santo Tomas in an early clash of the fancied teams with the Lady Archers eyeing win No. 2 in the Shakey’s V-League women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Taft-based spikers, seeking to extend their domination of the league to fourth straight conference, are riding on a straight-set victory over Far Eastern U in last week’s opener. But they are expected to have their hands full against the comebacking former champions in their 5 p.m. encounter.
The Tigresses, winners of the inaugural staging of this event sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza and organized by Sports Vision, took a leave last conference following the graduation of their key players.
But they are back in the fold with the Tigresses looking good on a team built around Mary Jean Balse, Venus Bernal, Vida Rica Gutierrez, Denise Tan, Melissa Cu, Michelle del Rosario, Cherry An Balse and backed by guest players Rubie de Leon anad Nerissa Bautista.
Lyceum is also looking for its second straight win after it turned back Ateneo in four sets as it plays Letran in the 1 p.m. opener of a triple-bill backed by Mikasa and Accel.
The Letran spikers are coming off a four-set setback to former NCAA champions and last conference’s losing finalist San Sebastian.
Adamson, headed by local guest players Suzanne Roces and Khrystalien Lopez, also makes its debut today as it takes on FEU at 3 p.m.
The games are shown on NBN-4 with the Letran-Lyceum match to be aired Wednesday starting at 2 p.m. while the FEU-Adamson tossup will be telecast on May 29. The UST-La Salle duel will be shown on Friday.
