Elizalde tapped to head new POC ethics committee

- Abac Cordero -
The Philippine Olympic Committee will soon form a new ethics committee that will deal with internal matters, and possible complaints or issues to be raised by any recognized national sports association.

POC president Jose Cojuangco said International Olympics Committee representative to the Philippines Frank Elizalde will head the ethics committee.

Also being considered as members are Art Macapagal of shooting, and three non-POC members. Cojuangco said the "outsiders" will ensure that there will be no biases in issues the committee will ever face.

Former Environment Secretary Jun Factoran and Dr. Benjamin Espiritu, a former governor in Mindoro and now with the graduate school of La Salle, are being tapped to join the committee.

‘‘We’re looking for one more person to complete this committee that will help us deal with some internal matters or even some complaints being raised by some NSAs," said Cojuangco.

But the equestrian president did not elaborate, saying the complaints will only be divulged once the committee is in place. So there will be less speculation," said Cojuangco.

POC spokesman Joey Romasanta said the POC executive board is defining the exact roles and objectives of the ethics committee.
