Sista, Mail & More gun for semis playoff berths

Surprise leaders Mail & More and Sista-St. Benilde take on separate rivals today, both gunning for at least a playoff for the outright semis berths in the 2007 PBL Silver Cup at the Emilio Aguinaldo College gym in Manila.

The Mail & More Comets battle the TeleTech Titans at 2 p.m. while the Sista Super Sealers clash with the Toyota Otis Sparks at 4 p.m.

Victories by the Comets and Super Sealers would assure themselves of a playoff for a semis berth. The Comets and Super Sealers have similar 6-2 records.

Though they lost to the Titans, 70-79, in the first round, the Comets are fancied to prevail this time owing to their impressive form.

Drawing fine performance from JR Quinahan and a solid crew, the Comets have won their last five games, including an 84-63 rout of Kettle Korn-University of Santo Tomas last Saturday.

The Titans, meantime, are out to get back on track after absorbing a stinging 69-77 loss to the Super Sealers last month.

Having won their last four games, the Super Sealers are likewise fancied over the Sparks.

Even Toyota Otis coach Louie Alas admits that beating Sista would be tough.

"Sista is a quick team so we have to stop its transition play. The team also boasts of good outside shooters so we also have to stop them," said Alas. "We really have to play solid defense."

Sista coach Caloy Garcia, however, is wary of the opposition.
