Archers, Bombers duel for title
December 17, 2006 | 12:00am
The weather forecast predicts it will be raining bombs and arrows today, and advises folks to stay indoors, specifically the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
After a long, arduous trek from the elimination, the Filoil-Flying V Homegrown Invitational Cup comes to peak with the championship game pitting the De La Salle Green Archers against the Jose Rizal Heavy Bombers.
One team seeking redemption, another looking to regain past glory.
Game time is set at 4 p.m. after the third place match between traditional UAAP rivals Far Eastern U Tamaraws and University of the East Red Warriors at 2 p.m.
Powering La Salle are Rico Maierhofer, JV Casio, Tyrone Tang, Bader Malabes, Brian Ilad and John Oliver Cua.
Leading Jose Rizal, on the other hand, are Jayson Nocum and Floyd Dedicatoria, James Ryan Sena and Mark Terence Cagoco.
Both teams met in the elimination of the tournament supported by Gerrys Grill, Franz Burger, RJ100, Security Bank, Millennium Plans, USA 88 Fuels and Lubes, Filoil Portagas, Flying V Bio Diesel, Accel Sports, Elf Lubricants and Nike, with the Green Archers prevailing in the closing minutes of a tight contest.
This time, the Heavy Bombers, who last dominated the skies during the time of Philippine Basketball Association great Philip Cezar, hopes to come up with a different outcome.
But the Green Archers, unbeaten so far, are on the last step of their preparation for their return to the UAAP next year and are not likely to let this one slip away.
