Snooker players off mark, bow to Viets

DOHA — Although the Philippines is one of the marked teams in the 8- and 9-ball events in cue sports here in the Asian Games, the RP squad continues to flounder in the snooker side of the tournament, dropping its second match in as many days.

But those setbacks failed to dampen the spirit of Felipe Tauro Jr., who remained confident of his chances in the sport at the Al-Sadd multi-purpose hall.

"I am sad," said the 23-year-old Tauro, after his teamup with Leonardo Andam and Alvin Punzalan failed to produce the desired result. The RP bets bowed to Vietnam, 1-3, in a round of 32 match in the team event.

He blamed the new table plus the playing conditions then promised to come strong in the next games in a bid to bring the team back into contention. "It was a new table and we had to adjust to these conditions," said Tauro. "But we’ll fight another day and we will play much better tomorrow (today)." Dante Navarro
