Manila to stage 2nd MY games national invit’l

Arnold "Ali" Atienza, Presidential Assistant for Youth and Sports and chief of the organizing Manila Sports Council (MASCO) announced yesterday that the Second MY Games National Invitational will kick off from Oct. 22-29 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex and San Andres Civic and Sports Center.

Patterned after the Big City’s highly successful Manila Youth Games, a multi-sports competition for the youth that started as a grassroots development program of the country’s premiere city, the MY Games National Invitational will showcase the best 17-under athletes from other Local Government Units and will compete against the finest athletes the capital city can offer.

The MY Games National Invitational promises to be one of the most colorful events filled with spirited competition among the best 17-under athletes all over the country. "Last year, more than 3,000 athletes and officials participated representing 40 LGUs during the initial staging in October, 2005. It is just fitting to have this game unfold in October during the Local Government Month and in celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the 1991 Local Government Code," said Atienza.

Through this event, it is hoped to widen the scope of LGU involvement in providing new avenues for recruitment, identification and talent exposure in line with the National Government’s comprehensive youth and sports development agenda.

Atienza also thanked Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo V. Puno who has instructed all provincial governors, city and municipal mayors to throw their full support to the Games.
