Limpot nearing end of 13-year title chase

Jun Limpot could be the happiest man in the Purefoods Chunkee team should the Giants go on to rule the Gran Matador Brandy PBA Philippine Cup.

The former Rookie of the Year and many-time All-Star has yet to experience championship glory after 13 long years in the league.

He said he’s suffered so much frustration that he feel uneasy having thoughts of winning a championship.

"I’m tired of dreaming. I’ll just continue working hard and if it comes, that’s the only time I’ll start to celebrate," said Limpot, who’s gone through trying times since joining the league in 1993 as the top draft pick.

"Right now, I’ll be happy whatever comes my way. I look at it one game at a time," added Limpot, playing only the third finals in his career.

This is the closest Limpot has ever gotten to a championship with Purefoods enjoying a 3-1 lead over Red Bull going to Game Five Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Limpot proved to be a key factor as Purefoods established that lead last Wednesday at the Big Dome.

The former La Salle King Archer tossed a personal season-high 19 points in their Game Four victory.

He said he seemed to draw power from Robert Jaworski who made the ceremonial toss in that game.

"I think I was the only one he knew personally. Isip ko nga huag masyadong dumikit, baka sabihin ng mga teammates ko ka-batch ko," Limpot said in jest.

At 34, Limpot isn’t thinking of retirement.

"I’m still young," he chuckled.

"Present-present lang. Kasi kahit sa school, mahirap ang absent. At saka nakundisyon ako dahil iba ang training dito sa Purefoods," said Limpot.
