Another perfect game was registered yesterday in the 35th PBC Boysen International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships at the Green Valley lanes in Pasig City.
Only this time, it came from a 13-year-old. Anjo Lecaros became the fourth local player to do so as he found the lane condition to his liking. Also scoring the feat a few days ago were CJ Suarez, Liza Clutario and Richie Poblete.
It was the first perfect game for Lecaros, of TBMA-Prima-Powerbowl, who used a No. 14 Uranium Buzzaw in rolling 13 consecutive strikes on the second of his four-game series of 1936.
Suarez, the former World Cup champion, and Clutario, a gold medalist in the ladies masters of the 2005 Southeast Asian Games, were the first to go perfect in the tournament.
Poblete, 31, formerly of the RP team, scored his Wednesday evening. But the big difference between him and Lecaros was that it was the 15th of his career.
Philippine Bowling Congress president Steve Hontiveros credited the "perfect spree" to the superb oiling condition of the lanes, and the type of equipment available to the players.
"The lane conditions are quite perfect. But even though, you still need great skills for you to score a perfect game. You must learn how to adjust," he said.
"Its always nice to see players scoring perfect games because you dont get to see that very often," added Hontiveros who also heads the international federation for bowling or FIQ.
With his feat, Lecaros is bound to get his share from the P100,000 purse that would go to the player or players scoring a perfect game for the duration of the tournament.
Somehow overshadowed by Lecaros perfect game were the victories posted by lawyer Joey Velez and businesswoman Lynn Tan in the associate masters division.
The 36-year-old Velez, a member of the San Juan Bowling Association, had lines of 156, 224, 144, 179, 234, 247, 183, 236, 203 and 198 for a total of 2004 and the mens associate masters title.
Carlos Candano of PBAP-Bowlmart was second with 1980 followed by Lecaros.
Tan, a member of the TCBA team, had 1768 to nail the womens associate masters title. TBAMs Dina Granada scored 1748 for second while PBAs Susan San Diego tallied 1752 for third.
Meanwhile, Korean Seo Jung Hwan came up with 1991 pinfalls to lead the mens Open class in the all-events.
Seos 1052 pinfalls (266- 252- 290-244) also gave him the lead in the singles event followed by compatriots Son Young Seok (1051) and Kim Hyun Suk (1017).
In the ladies Open class, RP team mainstay Liza del Rosario tallied 1747 to keep the all-events lead while Malaysian Wan Nur Atiqua was second with 1733 and Clutario third with 1726.
Malaysian Wendy Chai is top of the ladies singles event with 949 followed by Clutario (938) and Korean Kim Ho Jung (937).
