PAL golfer rules BBC Cup at Ayala Greenfield Estates

Joel Ignacio of Philippine Airlines fired a net 74 to capture the overall championship in the first Bishop-Businessmen’s Conference Cup at the Ayala Greenfield Estates Golf and Leisure Club in Calamba, Laguna recently.

But it was Totelle Dimson, also of PAL, who stole the spotlight as she bested an all-male field by winning the lowest gross title with a gutsy 84 at the tough par-72 layout designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.

Luis Puyat of Manilabank came through with six pars over the up-and-down layout nestled on the foothills of Mt. Makiling as he nipped Bob Erum of Formaply for the Class A crown with a net 76 under the Modified Callaway scoring format.

Erum also carded a 76 but managed only four pars. Ray Orozco of Café Lupe took third place honors with a net 77 in the event and held to raise funds for the Cardinal Sin Business Fund and Caritas Manila’s projects.

Ayala Land’s Paolo Cordero shot a 76, highlighted by three pars, to nip Caelum Developers’ Ric Pascua for the Class B diadem. Pascua also had a 76 but made only two pars. Bob de Vera, also of Caelum Developers, settled for third with a 78, including two pars.

Resins Inc.’s Eddie Go ruled Class C with a net 75, beating IBC-13’s Ricky Mendoza, who had a 76, and JC Puzon Marketing and Services, Inc.’s Mike Puzon, who carded a 77.

BBC national co-chairman Ric Pascua thanked the sponsors of the event, including the Ayala Land, Inc., the Phinma Group of Companies, Oriental and Motolite, Cafe Lupe, Macgraphics Carranz and Veritas 848.

Among the projects that will benefit from the tournament is the BBC’s Fund for Business Discipleship which supports livelihood projects for the Payatas Scavengers Association, transparency campaign specific to the bid and awards committees of several government agencies, and the nationwide traveling forum on charter change.

For Caritas Manila, the funds will help support its expanded scholarship program for 6,000 deserving students, a nutritional and feeding program for 200,000 wasting Filipino children, as well as a several socio-economic and spiritual programs focused on uplifting the lives of Metro Manila’s 300,000 urban poor.
