30th Milo Marathon resumes in Cavite

After a 15-week summer break, the 30th National Milo Marathon returns to the scene June 26 for another Milo elimination race in Cavite City, the first of the remaining 24 legs for this year’s 30 weekly Milo marathon elimination run nationwide.

The 30-leg foot race opened in Kidapawan City Jan. 29 and has already made stops in the cities of Tagbilaran, Batangas, Dumaguete, Puerto Princesa and Lucena.

More than 5,000 runners are expected to participate in Cavite City. Organizing the Cavite leg is Vice Mayor Dino Chua whose office at the second floor of the Cavite City Hall at the Samonte Park is also the registration center.

The top three finishers in the centerpiece 21K races in the men’s and women’s divisions will join the early qualifiers in the Grand National Finals Dec. 10 in Metro Manila.

The event expected to draw the most number of participants is the 5K fun run where serious competitors as well as health buffs are joining.

An age-group 3K race will also be held for 6-9 and 10-12 year olds.

This annual marathon is held in partnership with Bayview Park Hotel-Manila, Adidas, Cebu Pacific, Dept of Tourism, and Powerbar.

Aside from trophies and medals, a total of P160,000 in cash prizes is also at stake for the top 10 finishers in each category. The winners in the team running event and the cheering competition will also receive prizes.

After Cavite, the series will bring its fiesta atmosphere to the cities of Gen. Santos, Roxas, Manila, Bacolod and Davao for the month of July.

Organizing the Gen. Santos and Davao legs is Vic Sai. Roxas City leg is being organized by Councilor Mark Ortiz, while Bacolod City leg is organized by Efren Timtiman and Roger Bansuela. All Milo marathon provincial legs are supported by their respective city and provincial governments as well as the Dept of Education.

Milo sports events executive Pat Goc-Ong said he is targeting more than 182,000 participants in this season’s 30 legs, including the 42K grand finale in Metro Manila.

So far this year, the Milo Marathon already has attracted 20,467 runners from its first six elimination races.
