Painters go for semis; H Centre out to foil Granny

Rain or Shine and Magnolia collide in Game 2 of their quarterfinals series at 2 p.m. with the Elasto Painters gunning for a sixth straight stint in the semifinal round of the PBL Unity Cup at the Olivarez Sports Center in Parañaque.

Granny Goose Tortillos likewise shoots for a fourth straight stint in the semis as it tackles Harbour Centre squad at 4 p.m.

The Snackmasters finished No. 3 in the two-round elims to gain the first twice-to-beat privilege against the No. 6 Port Masters.

The Harbour Centre-Granny Goose showdown will be as explosive as the game between the Elasto Painters and the Spinners.

The Port Masters, for one, are out to erase the stigma of their setback to the Snackmasters last year when they blew away their twice-to-beat advantage in the same stage.

"The boys are raring to get even with Granny Goose," said Harbour Centre coach Jorge Gallent, confident of his chances on a team built around LA Tenorio, Joseph Gaco, Robbie Reyes and Ryan Araña.

The Elasto Painters, bidding to leave the league for the pros in spectacular fashion, claimed the other advantage when they beat the Spinners, 74-69, at the end of the elims last Sarturday, a victory that snapped their four-game skid. It was actually the start of their best-of-three series.

While the Spinners have a roller-coaster performance in the elims, the Elasto Painters sputtered after sweeping their first four games.
