PCU, FEU clash for semis slot in V-League
May 15, 2006 | 12:00am
Philippine Christian U and Far Eastern U dispute the third semifinal berth today even as Ateneo fights for dear life against San Sebastian in the V-League presented by Shakeys at the Blue Eagle gym.
PCU and FEU share third place with 3-2 (win-loss) slates with the winner in their 4 p.m. encounter joining De La Salle, unbeaten in five games, and Adamson (4-1) in the double round, carryover semis phase.
Admission is free. Games are telecast on ABC-5 every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Both teams are coming off losses in their respective last games with PCU bowing to the streaking La Salle, 28-26, 25-13, 26-24, and FEU losing to a resurgent SSC side, 25-21, 28-26, 25-16, both last Wednesday.
Guest players Amelia Guanco and Lailanie Cervantes are again expected to spearhead PCUs bid while FEU will lean on the power-hitting Mary Ann Manalo, Rachel Daquis and Wendy Semana.
Ateneo, meanwhile, hopes to snap its four game skid and keep its flickering semis hopes alive as it battles San Sebastian in the 6 p.m. main game of this event presented by Shakeys Pizza and organized by Sports Vision.
But against the Lady Stags, the hosts will be taking on a team that has bounced back from three straight setbacks with back-to-back wins and got back into the thick of things in the tournament backed by Accel, Mikasa, ABC-5 and ABC Sports.
A SSC win will eliminate Ateneo from the semis race and will reduce the fight for the fifth and last semis berth to the Lady Stags and the Lyceum spikers.
Meanwhile, the Lady Pirates ousted the Univ. of the East side, 25-11, 25-19, 25-19, late Saturday to likewise boost its own semis bid with a 2-3 card. The Lady Warriors reeled to their fifth straight setback.
